The Heritage

After weeks of dark water, the thing they watched for was not land. It was light — the first grey easing to gold along the rim of a sky they had never seen, the morning that meant the crossing was nearly done.

Between 1880 and 1920, millions came to that dawn. They had spent the nights below deck counting days; the daybreak over the harbor was the first thing the new country gave them, free and ahead of any promise — proof that the dark stretch ends, and ends in light.

These drops are cut from that first light. Caring for Your Vann Veld

• Put them on last — after lotion, perfume, and hair — and take them off before water; vermeil is happiest kept dry.
• Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wear; when needed, a touch of warm water and mild soap, then pat fully dry.
